Subsequently, he worked as a research economist at the University of Kiel and at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. In 2009 he received his doctoral degree in Economics from the University of Kiel. From 2010 to 2016, Thomas Lontzek was a post-doc research associate with the University of Z\u00fcrich and in 2012 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University\u2019s Hoover Institution. Since October 2016, he has been Professor of Economics at RWTH Aachen University.
